Well: Medicine Is More Than Carrots and Sticks

In today’s medical schools, words like “provider” and “consumer” are used as frequently as “healer” and “patient.” But no arsenal of incentives alone will ever produce the kind of compassion and attention to detail every patient wants and deserves.
